AMAC Group were commissioned by the Tasmanian Department of Health and Human Services to investigate a potential site for the New Royal Hobart Hospital in the current Hobart Railyards, just south of the Cenotaph. Our program consisted of eight large test trenches throughout the area placed to understand its historical archaeology resource and make recommendations to the Department based on the significance of the discovered archaeology, if any.

Test excavation found evidence for several key historic contexts: the 1820-1900 Lord's House and Royal Engineers Barracks, Yard, and Wharf, the Slaughter House and Yard Complex and the Municipal Depot and Rail Yards phases.
