Aboriginal Heritage Director
Benjamin Streat (BA Prehistory, Grad Dip Arc Her, Grad Dip App Sc) has worked in Australian Aboriginal archaeology for since 1998 and has over twenty years of experience as a Director of major projects or complex site excavations for Aboriginal Heritage and combined investigations with historical archaeologists. Ben has considerable project experience in all areas of Sydney, the Central Coast, Newcastle, the Hunter Valley, Central NSW, The Illawarra, The Southern Tablelands, Victoria and Tasmania.
Streat has considerable experience as a primary author of the entire range of studies and reports required in NSW including: Due Diligence, Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessment Report (ACHAR) and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management Plan (ACHMP). Ben also has many years of experiences as a senior contributing author to Heritage Studies and Review of Environmental Factors and has worked under the current legislative framework regarding Aboriginal Archaeology in NSW since it was rewritten, in 2010, and is well-versed with the requirements of the current NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE). Streat consistently produces supporting documents for projects that adhere to the detailed guidelines produced by DPIE and is also successful in applying for and enacting permits within that system.
Ben also has extensive experience working within and integrating Aboriginal Archaeology with the current legislative framework for historical archaeology in NSW at both locally significant sites and State Heritage Register (SHR) sites.
